lovelight farm’s csa

Lovelight Farm is a Certified Naturally Grown farm, meaning all of our produce is grown and harvested without the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides.

When you purchase a CSA Membership, you receive a certain number of weeks of freshly harvested produce from our local farm. You get to choose from a list of locations to pick up from weekly.

See FAQs about our CSA’s below!

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for community supported agriculture and is how small farms fund their future growing season. Purchasing CSA shares in January helps the farm purchase seeds, nutrients to amend the soil, and other expenses. The farm will host community events: farm tours, farm school for kids, community work days, and socials.

WILL THERE BE ENOUGH VARIETY?

We grow a large variety of market crops: arugula, beets, carrots, bell peppers, cubanella peppers, mad hatter peppers, jalapeño peppers, serino peppers, poblano peppers, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, golden potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, swiss chard, kohlrabi, roma tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, bulb onions, spring onions, okra, collards, turnips, breakfast radishes, watermelon radishes, Spanish black radishes, garlic, basil, fennel, dill, parsley, mint, 6 varieties of salad mix, red and green head lettuce, watermelons, cantaloupe, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, kobacha squash, Georgia sweet squash, green beans, purple beans, and cut flowers!

Can I volunteer at your farm?

YES! We are a small, local farm and need as much help as we can get! We need help Tuesdays and Thursdays to harvest and wash produce, prepare for market, and other light farm work! Email lovelightfarmalabama@gmail.com or click HERE to submit a contact form.

WHAT DOES A CSA MEMBERSHIP GET ME?

A CSA membership receives a $25 valued share of vegetables each week to be picked up at your designated location. The shares reflect the growing season and include about 6 items each week. Members also receive a weekly email with what your CSA will have each week, recipes and tips on preparing the vegetables, and invites to social functions.

What makes lovelight farm special?

We are a Certified Naturally Grown farm, using organic and biodynamic practices. Biodynamic practices are a system of growing that focuses on soil health and plants according to the moon cycle. We never use chemical pesticides or herbicides. The system also coordinates with the cosmic rhythms through a planting calendar.

Why is soil health important?

Just like your gut health the plants need soil that is healthy and that allows them to break down the biomass and absorb nutrients. Sound familiar? We are a reflection of nature and our gut works the same way as the soil! If the human gut is unhealthy the result is disease. It's the same with the soil. Most disease and pests in farming can be addressed through soil health. This takes time and patience through the use of compost teas, manure, minerals, and beneficials. However, most conventional farmers reach for a quick fix such as commercial herbicide or pesticide instead of getting to the “root” of the problem. When the soil is healthy, the crops flourish and the plants are more nutrient dense.
